Through our Wildlife campaign, EIA envisions a world where the most threatened species, especially elephants and rhinos, thrive in their natural habitats. We work to stop poaching, end the illegal trade in wildlife parts, and safeguard the ecosystems these animals depend on. Africa’s elephants continue to be threatened by poaching to supply the trade in ivory. EIA strives to eliminate illegal ivory trade and increase enforcement to protect elephants. EIA campaigns to enforce the international ban on commercial ivory trade and advocate for the closure of domestic ivory markets worldwide to protect elephants from the threat of ivory trade for generations to come.
For decades, EIA has led the fight to protect elephants and end the ivory trade. Our 1989 investigations exposed widespread elephant poaching and a booming global ivory market, laying the groundwork for the international ban on commercial ivory trade under CITES. Since then, elephant populations devastated by poaching have begun to recover. Yet the fight continues: legal ivory markets and weakened protections still drive demand and new waves of poaching. EIA continues to work to expose illegal trade, strengthen enforcement, and advocate for the closure of all domestic ivory markets worldwide.
Beyond elephants, EIA US works globally to combat deforestation, climate pollution, threats to marine ecosystems, and the environmental and social harms caused by oil, gas, and mining industries. Through evidence-based investigations and strategic advocacy, we aim to halt environmental crime and ensure the protection of communities, species, and ecosystems.
